Give us today our daily bread.

With these words you are praying for the ability to live every day.
Like a child Jesus calls us to trust his Father for all our basic needs. Luther taught that daily bread, “is all that is needed for nutrition of flesh and needs, namely: food, drink, clothes, shoes, house, yard, fields, stock, money, assets, a good marital partner, nice kids, a loving family, good and trustworthy lords, good government, fresh air, and peace.” God cares about all that you and I care about. Just as I want my children to speak about all that worries them, God wants to hear about all the things that worry you.
We begin this prayer with the word “our” because the bread you are praying for is not meant only for you. Pray for others who are starving and your ability to share with them.
